Read More Geospecific Terrain for 3D-engines A case study to find out what the differences are between developing a 3D-terrain between a traditional 3D-engine from the simulation/training industry and a gamebased 3D-engine. The terrain is developed for a ground based training scenario. Computer Games as a Base for Training Simulators GameStudio has performed a study in the possibilities of using COTS computer games as a base for training simulators. Several game titles has been inspected for features like: · The ability to build large geospecifik terrains · Localized speech and text · Ability to modify/add content for weapons, vehicles and uniforms/soldiers · Command structure · Blend AI/NPCs and real players(MP) · Scripting languages and capabilities · Scenario tools The study had the Swedish Army Combat School in Kvarn as recipient of the results and they also contributed with domain specific knowledge. One of the results of the study was a visualization of a surveillance mission using Forward Air/Ground Controllers (FAGC) and a UAV to fight hostile artillery batallions. The visualization was built as a modification of the game Operation Flashpoint:Resistance developed by Bohemia Interactive and published by Codemasters. GameStudio contributed with a 50x50 km large terrain with high resolution built up area of 1x1 km in the middle of the map covering a MOUT/FIBUA exercise area over Kvarn. The demonstrator uses an early version of the excellent Swedish Forces Pack v4.0 developed by the Swedish Forces Team. The Swedish Forces Team also created custom scripts for the demo. The scenario was developed by teachers from the Army Combat School. HLA/FS2002/2004 Bridge Development of a software component that bridges entities between a MicroSoft FlightSim 2002/2004 session and a HLA/RPR-FOM federation.. GameARENA In order to support the gaming GameARENA has been developed as an inter-government simulation net. The purposes is to have an infrastructure to easily and rapidly conduct exercises, experiments and research with games. Completely built on existing technology and existing infrastructure GameARENA can connect various centres and organisations all around the world. Various game servers are connected to GameARENA offering different types of games (operational, strategy, tactical and combat type games). Our expectation with GameARENA is to move from demonstrator only activities to a more persistent gaming. Therefore GameARENA will run 24/7 (24 hours a day, seven days a week).
