University of Skövde will start a master in serious games

University of Skövde will start a master in serious games (magisterprogram) in autumn 2008.

The study program will be focused on how serious games can be applied to various areas and for various purposes. We will feature a project course n which the students will work for a commissioner to develop a prototype solution for their needs. The study program will also contain  course in experimental game evaluation and a seminar course about urrent research within the area. Learning from computer games

A new downloadable report written by Staffan Nählinder and Per-Anders Oskarsson (FOI) has been added to our Reports section. 

Commercial computer games provide an excellent environment for active, critical learning, and include several characteristics of problem solving. Commercial computer games have also shown widespread application for military training and planning. This report presents several examples from this field. Serious games and simulations explicitly constructed and designed for military training are also discussed. Examples of serious games as well as game engines used for serious games in the military context are given.  

 
Studies of the effects of Game-Based Learning

So far there have been very few studies of the effects of Game-Based Learning. The paper Does Game-Based Learning Work? Results from Three Recent Studies by Richard Blunt in External Papers describes the results of three research studies to examine the differences among students who did and did not use video games in learning. 

 
FMV:GameStudio @ I/ITSEC'07

At this years I/ITSEC, JFCOM will host an special demo which is a huge HLA-federation supporting the Joint Training Transform Special Event (JT2SE07) in which, among many others, FMV:GameStudio is partipating.
